AI lecture notes from a recording
Automatic lecture notes turn a recording into something you can actually revise from: the whole lecture written out, sorted by topic, with the parts that matter standing out. Not a summary — the difference is the point. You upload the file, you touch nothing else, and the notes arrive along with the glossary, the concept map, the timeline, the quizzes and the flashcards.

Why a summary is not what you need
Almost every tool in this category offers the same thing: a summary. Ten pages become one, and it reads beautifully. Then the exam asks about the exception the lecturer spent four minutes on, and the exception is not in there — because a summary is, by definition, the thing that decided to leave it out.
The decision about what matters is the one part of studying you cannot safely hand over. Whoever shortens the lecture is choosing your exam material for you, and they are choosing it without knowing your professor, your syllabus or what came up last year.
So the notes here are not short. They cover the lecture from the first minute to the last, including the long explanation in the middle that nobody ever manages to write down in full. What changes is not the length — it is the shape.
A summary is a fine thing to have the evening before. It is a bad thing to have instead of the lecture.
What the notes look like
- Split by topic, following the order the lecturer actually used — not chopped into equal blocks by the clock.
- Headings you can scan, so that in June you can find the twelve minutes you need without replaying anything.
- Definitions kept whole. When a term is defined in the room, the definition stays as it was given, not paraphrased into something smoother and vaguer.
- Emphasis where the lecturer put it. The aside that started with «this comes up every year» does not get flattened into the surrounding prose.
- Lists that were lists. Three conditions said out loud become three lines, not one long sentence with commas.
The same lecture also produces a glossary of the technical terms, a concept map, a timeline, a scored quiz and a deck of flashcards. You do not ask for them separately: they come from the same file, in the same run.
What never gets into them
This is the part worth reading twice, because it is where these notes differ from anything a general-purpose chatbot will give you.
- Nothing that was not said. No extra date, no definition borrowed from elsewhere because it fitted nicely. If your lecturer skipped it, the notes skip it.
- No invented names. When a proper noun stays uncertain in the audio, it is flagged as heard rather than replaced with something that merely sounds plausible.
- No filler. Ums, false starts and the two minutes about the room being too hot do not survive the trip.
The honest consequence: if the audio genuinely does not contain something, the notes will not contain it either. A tool that fills that gap for you is not being helpful — it is guessing, and you would have no way to tell which lines are the guesses.
How you get them
Upload the recording
From a browser, on a laptop or a phone. mp3, m4a, wav, ogg, opus, flac, aac — iPhone Voice Memos included. A .txt file works too if the lecture is already written down.
Touch nothing
There is no prompt to write, no model to choose, no settings screen to get right. That is deliberate: the quality of your notes should not depend on how well you word a request.
The notes arrive — and so does the rest
You watch them appear. The transcript is saved first, then the write-up, the notes, the glossary, the map, the timeline, the quiz and the flashcards, one after another.
What you do with them once you have them
They stay filed by course and by lecture, and you search them by word — which is what makes twenty lectures a course instead of twenty files. You can have them read aloud, resize the text, or switch on a high-legibility mode built for reading a lot at once.
When a course has several lectures in it, a second set of tools reads all of them together: a long-form revision summary, a mock exam with model answers, a scored multiple-choice quiz, a semester concept map, a course timeline, a full deck of flashcards, a study plan for the days left and a five-minute briefing.
Notes for a single lecture can be published to Notion if that is where your material lives. There is no download button, and that is a deliberate choice rather than a missing feature.
Why not just paste it into a chatbot
You can, and for one lecture it half works. Three things break at the second one.
- It will not read two hours properly. Long recordings get quietly skimmed, and the part that gets skimmed is the middle — where the explanation was.
- Every lecture comes out differently, because you word the request differently each time. In June you have twenty documents that do not resemble each other.
- Nothing is filed. There is no course, no search, no way back to «the lecture where she explained the exception».
The comparison is worth making properly rather than dismissing: for a one-off talk, a chatbot is genuinely cheaper and quicker. The gap opens over a semester.
The same explanation, before and after
…right, so blood glucose. The body wants it steady, more or less, whatever you do. Now — if you skip lunch, sugar drops, and the pancreas puts out glucagon, alpha cells, and the liver lets go of the glucose it was holding. Fine. The other way round after you eat: sugar climbs, insulin comes out, beta cells this time, and the cells start taking it up. Two hormones pulling opposite ways, one number held still. And, uh… sorry, is that window open? Anyway — this comes up every single year, the pair of them, so know which cell does which…
Blood glucose regulation
Blood glucose is held roughly steady by two hormones acting in opposite directions.
Falling glucose (fasting) — the pancreas releases glucagon from the alpha cells; the liver releases stored glucose and the level rises.
Rising glucose (after a meal) — the pancreas releases insulin from the beta cells; cells take glucose up and the level settles.
Flagged by the lecturer as a recurring exam question: which cell type produces which hormone.

Are these notes a summary?
No, and that is the whole point. They cover the lecture from the first minute to the last. What changes is the shape — topics, headings, emphasis — not the length.
Can I tell it what to focus on?
There is no prompt to write. That is deliberate: notes whose quality depends on how well you phrased a request are notes you cannot trust when you are tired.
What if the lecturer says something wrong, or I mishear a name?
