What it is, and who runs it

Alessandria is a website: you open it in a browser on your laptop or phone, and there is nothing to install. You upload a lecture recording — or a text file — and get back the lecture written out in full, the notes, the glossary, the concept map, the timeline, the quizzes and the flashcards. Across a whole course there are then the exam tools.

It is not a company: it is one student’s work, and whoever provides it is named at the bottom with the address to write to. That is worth knowing before you start, because it changes what is reasonable to expect: answers come from a person, and sometimes not straight away.

Using Alessandria means accepting these terms. If something here does not sit right with you, the right thing to do is write and say so, rather than sign in silence.

The account is yours, and stays yours

• You need an account, and you need a real email address: it is the only way back in if you lose access.
• The account is personal. Do not share it and do not hand it on: the archive is filed under you, and whoever signs in with your credentials is inside your notes.
• The credentials are yours to keep. If you think someone else has them, the most useful thing is to write immediately.

Splitting the transcribing work between coursemates is a healthy practice, and Alessandria is partly built for it. You do that by sharing the material that comes out, not the keys to the house.

What you may upload

This is the most important rule on the page, and it is about you more than about us: only upload recordings and texts you have the right to hold and to have processed.

Recording a lecture is not always allowed. At many universities you have to ask the lecturer; at some it is written into the rules; at others it is forbidden. This is not a formality: asking is on you, before you record, and Alessandria cannot know it for you.

• A lecture is an audio file or a text file. No slides, PDFs, images or video: that is not a temporary limitation, it is how the service is built.
• Do not upload material owned by others in order to make copies to hand around — a chapter of a book, an audiobook, somebody else’s paid course.
• Do not upload material that has nothing to do with studying, and in particular no recordings of people made without their knowledge in private settings.

If something arrives here that should not have, the consequence is not an automatic penalty: it is that the account can be suspended, and in serious cases closed.

Who owns what comes out

You do. Alessandria acquires no rights over the lecture you upload or the material derived from it: it is not published, not resold, not shown to anyone else, and not used to train anything. The precise version of that is on the privacy page.

What stays ours is the service itself: the site, the way it is built, the name and the design. Using Alessandria does not grant the right to rebuild a copy of it, resell access to it, or run it on other people’s behalf.

What the service does not guarantee

Here is the part nobody enjoys writing, and the part that matters most the week before an exam.

   The output needs checking

   Alessandria works from what the lecturer actually said and adds nothing of its own, but a recording can be muddy, a word can be misheard, a name can stay uncertain. What comes out is a study aid, not a certified source: what you are staking an exam on deserves a check, the same check you would give a coursemate’s notes.

   No promise about your marks

   There is no guarantee about the result you will get. Studying stays your work; Alessandria exists to take the mechanical part off your hands, not the part that learns.

   Your university’s rules still apply

   Every institution decides for itself what may be used to study, and those rules come before this page. If your course forbids something, the fact that Alessandria can do it does not make it allowed.

   The service can stop

   It can be slow, it can be under maintenance, and a job can fail. Real effort goes into preventing that, but there is no promise of continuity: the night before an exam, it is unwise to depend on a lecture you have not processed yet.

Said without the boilerplate: to the extent the law allows, no liability is accepted for loss arising from use of the material produced or from an interruption of the service. Whatever the law grants you as a consumer remains valid, and this page does not touch it.

There is no download button

Notes, maps, quizzes and flashcards are read and revised inside Alessandria. There is no export, and flashcards do not import into Anki: that is a choice, not a missing feature. The notes from a lecture can, however, be published to Notion if you connect yours.

That does not mean your data is held hostage: if you want a copy of what is in your archive, ask for it by email — it is a right, written on the privacy page.

What it costs, and where things stand

The announced prices are the ones on the main page, and there is only one price with three ways to pay it: everything is included in every plan, with no features held back for the expensive one.

Today, though, nobody is being charged anything: the service is opening gradually and no payment is active yet. Nobody will ever be charged without being told first and without having chosen to pay. When payments do start, the terms covering renewals, cancellation and refunds will be written here before they take effect.

In the meantime access can be limited: sign-ups may be capped, and there may be a ceiling on how much work a single account can ask for in a day. That exists to keep the service standing for everyone, not to push anyone towards a plan.

What you may not do

• Drive Alessandria with automated programs to request work in bulk, or get around limits by spreading across several accounts.
• Resell access, or charge for a service that is Alessandria behind the curtain.
• Try to reach data that is not yours, or parts of the service that are none of your business.
• Upload material you have no right to upload, as set out above.

Finding a security problem and reporting it, on the other hand, is welcome: write to the address at the bottom, and it will not be treated as an attack.

If either side stops

You can stop whenever you like: deleting your courses from the app deletes the material, and closing the account is done by writing in. On the other side, an account can be suspended if these rules are seriously broken, and in that case the reason is explained before anything is closed.

If one day the service were to shut down entirely, the commitment is to give reasonable notice, rather than switching everything off overnight with somebody’s notes inside.

Governing law

Italian law applies to this relationship. If you use Alessandria as a consumer, the rights the law of your country of residence gives you remain valid, and this page does not limit them.

If these terms change

The date at the top is the date of the last revision. It moves when the text changes, not every time the site is published. Changes that matter — payments, first of all — get written here before they take effect.
